Family SUV, a diesel estate, the camper van at weekends: the NOCO Boost X GBX55 is the size up for anyone whose engine is too big for the smallest boosters.

Its 1750A peak covers petrol engines up to 7.5 L and diesels up to 5.0 L on 12V lead-acid batteries, in cars, motorbikes, SUVs, vans, boats, motorhomes or tractors. Even if you've let it go flat, 5 minutes of charging is enough for a start. UltraSafe 2.0 takes care of sparks and reversed polarity.

Through its USB-C PD port (60W) it fills up in 1.2 h on a 60W charger and can top up your laptop or phone. Add a 200-lumen torch and a 60-second energy-saving timer.

How to use it, step by step

• 1.  Switch off the ignition and any accessories.
• 2.  Red clamp onto the + terminal, black clamp onto the - terminal or an unpainted metal earth point.
• 3.  Switch the GBX55 on and start the engine.
• 4.  Remove the clamps in the opposite order: black first, red last.
• 5.  Recharge over USB-C afterwards, which takes 1.2 h with a 60W charger.
