When the engine that won't start is a big one and you're far from help, you want a booster that won't run out of breath. That's where the NOCO Boost PRO GB150 comes in.

It delivers 3000A peak to 12V lead-acid batteries, enough for petrol engines up to 9.0 L and diesels up to 7.0 L, and holds up to 80 starts in one charge. The clamps are spark-proof and reverse polarity protected, and the built-in voltmeter tells you the battery voltage before you begin.

Around the house or on the road, its 88 Wh battery charges devices via USB, the 12V XGC output runs inflators or inverters at up to 15A, and a 500-lumen torch shows you the way.

How to use it, step by step

• 1.  Turn the engine off and remove the key.
• 2.  Hook the red clamp to positive (+) and the black clamp to negative (-) or a metal earth point; the voltmeter will show the battery voltage.
• 3.  Switch on the GB150, using manual override only when a very flat battery isn't recognised.
• 4.  Start the engine and take the clamps off the other way round: black, then red.
• 5.  Recharge it straight away, ideally with 12V fast charging (2-3 h).
